Section A The Promotion and Strategies from the
Government
After about 30 years of development since the reform and opening-up, China’s economic strength and status have been acclaimed for the dramatic changes. As part of the national economy, the publishing industry has shared the rapid economic development and has become one of the most in?uential industries because both of its cultural implications and economic signifcances. China’s overall economy has been continuously expanding outward to develop overseas markets and the label of “Made in China” is becoming increasingly well-known, by striking contrast, however, its publishing industry has been confned to the domestic market. Both publishing products and brands have failed to truly enter into the international market. Namely, while China is enjoying huge surplus in overall international trade, its publishing industry is undergoing huge defcit. In 1995, Chinese government officially released the statistics for trade in book copyright for the frst time. By 2006 there have been 12 years of offcial statistics and the core of which are summarized in Table 1, while Fig. 1 portrays China’s performance in licensing arena more visually
